Delores Huling Founder/CEO

Hello, I am Delores Huling a Certified Project Manager, Senior Home Safety Specialist and Aging in Place Specialist. I will be responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the Sequoia Rose project while ensuring client’s expectations are met within the set timeline.
Although I am fully committed to the project, I believe it is important to live a balanced life and over the years I have developed a wide range of interest to enjoy “me time.” I have been known to be captivated by a Broadway play, laughing until I cry at a comedy club, enjoying quiet time reading a mystery novel, listening to different types of music, traveling to far away countries, appreciating the visual arts, and valuing the time spent with family and friends.

Our Story

My entrepreneurial dream took flight when I started a company named Apartment Cleaning ETC, which quickly advanced to painting and renovations. I gathered a wealth of valuable knowledge and experience in planning, hiring contractors, budgeting, purchasing material, scheduling, and other vital management skills required to complete a project. I later became a certified project manager. I found the steps in renovating to be challenging and equally rewarding. This sparked a desire to build. However, at the time, I was following my passion for teaching children with special needs. I needed to make a choice, so I chose my children and taught until I retired.

In 2018, I was appointed as chair of the Cedar Hill, Texas Mayor’s Senior Focus Group. From my research, I learned that there is a shortage of homes where seniors can reimagine their lives by downsizing and/or relocating. This knowledge defined the people I would serve and the type of homes I would build.

When the world got quiet in 2020 due to COVID, my deferred dream was born and named McKinney-West Development LLC in honor of my grandparents.

Our Mission

“To become the preferred choice of seniors by creating homes with charming universal designs for “aging in place” that are safe, comfortable, and functional in small, supportive communities.”

The Vision The Sequoia Tree and the Rose

The giant sequoia tree is one of the largest and oldest trees on earth, living thousands of years. They have small shallow roots and survive the perils of life by growing close to each other, intertwining their roots and holding each other up.

The rose often symbolizes love, affection, and care. It is believed that roses are one of the oldest flowers. Being the favorite of many people, roses come in many vibrant colors, each with its own unique beauty.

Like the sequoia tree and the red rose, it is our vision to build communities with like-minded seniors who are vibrant, caring, and supportive and want to take root in a community they can call home.

Cedar Hill – Texas Named “A Top Place to Live”

Farhad Manjoo, a New York Times columnist, named Cedar Hill, Texas a “Top Place to Live in The Country.” According to his November 2021 opinion column, the city received high marks in affordable living, racial and political diversity, clean air, and low climate risk.

Cedar Hill is a unique suburban town located approximately 16 miles southwest of downtown Dallas. It is a friendly and safe community with 48,557 residents. Easy access to Highway 67 and I-20 gives seniors many opportunities to participate in a variety of events outside of Cedar Hill. Baseball, football, hockey, golf, musicals, plays, shopping, culture centers, and entertainment venues are just a few of the many activities available. The Dallas Fort Worth International and Love Field airports are approximately 30 minutes away. Transportation is provided through Star Transit. Seniors pay half fare. A state-of-the-art library, museum, and signature park will open in 2024.

Surrounded by Beautiful Landmarks

Surrounded by beautiful trees, picturesque views like Joe Pool Lake, and impressive landmarks like Cedar Hill state park, seniors can enjoy the seclusion of the country setting along with the convenience of a movie theater, shopping, and restaurants. Cedar Hill provides an active lifestyle for seniors indoors and outdoors. Joining the Senior Activity Center, Sims Recreation Center, swimming, fishing, or just strolling on a scenic walking trail awaits seniors who want to be physically active.

This planned community will be developed on more than 5 acres of land to ensure there is sufficient space for desirable floorplans and community space. Several site locations have been selected. Determination will be made after due diligence.
